Helen Marie (McMahon) Johnson, 92, beloved wife of LeRoy I. Johnson, died peacefully on September 6, 2010 in the company of her loving family. Born in New York City, N.Y. on October 7, 1917, daughter of James J. and Mary Agnes (O'Brien) McMahon, Helen grew up in Rockville Center, New York, and after her marriage lived in Burlington, Vermont and subsequently in West Hartford, for 44 years before moving to Farmington, six years ago. Helen, who had a career in actuarial accounting, was employed by Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CIGNA) in the Reinsurance Department for many years before her retirement in 1980.

Married on March 24, 1945, Helen was the loving wife of LeRoy I. Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, her children Ethel T. O'Connor and her husband Thomas of West Hartford, CT , Thomas L. Johnson of West Hartford, Kathryn M. Barry and her husband James of Portsmouth, R.I. and Singer Island, Florida, Patricia Johnson Auth and her husband John of Amherst, MA, and Marcia Phelan Johnson of West Hartford. "Meme" was blessed with grandchildren: Alison M. O'Connor, Thomas L. Johnson, Jr., Tyler L. Johnson, John C. Auth, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, Lynn Auth Hall and her husband Perry III, Lisa Barry Probst and her husband Eric, Traci Barry de Groen, and great grandchildren: Hannah, Brendan, Gretchen Probst; Clare, Bayard, Sam and Paige Hall, Alexandra and Teagan de Groen and Katherine Ann and John Ryan Auth, a sister, Kathryn M. Draper and dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her dog Abbi. She was predeceased by her parents and her twin sister Constance B. Leschot.

Helen was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her family was the joy of her life. Helen's warm smile, engaging personality, kind acts and boundless energy endeared her to all who knew her. She enjoyed every moment of time spent with her family and all aspects of her life including her volunteer work, sewing, knitting, painting, cooking and travel. Helen was a member of the West Hartford Belles , The West Hartford Homemakers Club and St Helena's Ladies Guild. She was a devout Catholic who found great strength in her faith as a communicant at the Church of St. Helena for thirty years.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen to be celebrated at the Church of St Helena's , Echo Lane, West Hartford, CT, at 11:00AM on September 9, 2010. Calling hours will precede the funeral mass at The Church of St. Helena's from 10:00AM -11:00AM. Her burial will follow the Mass at the Fairview Cemetery.,
