Anne (Scavetta) Steinberg, 92 passed away on August 29 2010. Anne was born in Hartford on April 11, 1918 to Rocco and Mary Scavetta. She was predeceased by her sisters, Florence, Rose, and Peg, and her brothers Jimmy, and Frank. She leaves brothers Tony and Mike, and her sister, Paula. Anne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was known to both her family and extended family for her generosity. She was always one of the first to help when needed and opened her home to many of her extended family at various times. She left school during her freshman year at Weaver High School to help support her family during the Great Depression. Though she never finished, she was determined that her own children would further their educations with some going on to work in higher education. She was always proud of all of their accomplishments. As a young woman, Anne worked in a factory making gold leaf which eventually adorned the top of our state capitol. She later worked in the family business as a waitress at Dino's Italian Kitchen in West Hartford. Following the tradition started by her parents, she would host a grand celebration each Christmas eve. The number of people at these parties would reach over one hundred. Family and friends were all invited and loved attending. Her children and grandchildren would come to her house every Sunday for dinner. Anne was known for her pasta, brownies, and frequent knitting. She loved winters at her place in Fort Lauderdale and would walk to the beach every day and visit with her neighbors. Anne faced several difficult challenges in her life but proved to be a model of strength. As a very young mother she was able to survive the Hartford circus fire. She also faced breast cancer and major surgery at a very young age. Anne would become a fifty+ year survivor of cancer. She is survived by her sons, Brian, Jim, and Bill Steinberg and his wife Karen. She is also survived by her daughter Bobbie Steinberg Koplowitz. In addition, she leaves her grandchildren Sasha Dagnall, Jane Steinberg and her husband Jordan, Kaara and Shayne Koplowitz, Ashley and Brett Steinberg and Russ and Molly Steinberg. She also leaves her Great Granddaughter Rylie Dagnall. Calling hours will be on Tuesday September 7 from 3-4PM with a service immediately following at Molloy Funeral Home at 906 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. Special thanks for the outstanding love and care she received from the staff of West Hartford Health and Rehab, and her niece Marylou Crowley, a frequent visitor. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, or Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Online messages of sympathy may be made at www.molloyfuneralhome.com
