Joyce Garam, 74, of West Hartford beloved wife of the late Charles Garam, and mother of Chuck Garam, died Monday at West Hartford Health and Rehab. Born in Wolverhampton, England, she was an English Teacher in London before coming to the United States. Here she graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1967. Joyce worked from 1969-1983 at the CT Humane Society, doing pet therapy for area nursing homes and mental hospitals. She received her MSW from UCONN in 1988 and began to work as a nursing home social worker. And even after retirement she worked part time as a recreational director for the elderly at the Windsor Rehab Center. In addition to her beloved son Chuck she is survived by her cousins Nancy Smith and her family in Rochester, NY and Rhoda Mason and her family in Williamsville, NY.
