ALCANTARA, Victor F.
Victor F. Alcantara, 84, the husband of Shirley (Tang) Alcantara, and retired Professor in Civil Engineering at Hartford State Technical College, died August 26, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Davao City, Philippines, he served as a Lieutenant in the Philippine Army during WWII. He earned his bachelors degree at the Mapua Institue of Technology in Manila, Philippines, and his Masters Degree in Engineering from Mississippi State University. Besides his passion to education, Victor enjoyed travel, music and the arts. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He and his wife have lived in West Hartford for the past 40 years. He is survived by his wife Shirley, their son Victor J. Alcantara of Seattle, WA, and their daughter Shila-Vi T. Alcantara of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his three sisters: Enriqueta A. Serate of the Philippines, Carmen A. Estacio M.D. and her husband Resty Estacio M.D. of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Erlinda A. Mirza and her husband Sadiq Mirza of La Prairie, Quebec CA. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law J. B. Tang, Jr. M.D. and his wife Rita, James B. Tang and his wife Grace, sisters-in-law Fe Tang, Lita Tang Terry and her husband Russell all of Houston, TX and Elena Tang Malabanan in the Philippines. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him.
Funeral services will be Saturday Sept. 4th beginning with visitation at the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford at 7:45 a.m. and followed by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mark the Evangelist Church 467 So. Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Donations in his memory may be made to the UCONN Health Center-Fund for UCONN Health, 10 Talcott Notch Road, Suite 100, Farmington, CT. 06032.
