Katharine Van Sant Spalding (Kay), the wife of the late T. Clayton Spalding died Monday March 8, 2010 at Seabury Retirement Community in Bloomfield. Born in Baltimore the daughter of the late Robert Morris and Katharine Smith Van Sant, she had lived in West Hartford before moving to Bloomfield nine years ago. Mrs. Spalding attended Roland Park Country School, Calvert School and Connecticut College, class of 1949. A member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, Mrs. Spalding enjoyed their summer home on Cape Cod and their home in Vero Beach, Florida. She was active in the Junior League, the Garden Club of America (GCA) and was past President of the Women’s Exchange of West Hartford. She loved gardening, her golden retrievers, playing tennis and was an avid and accomplished bridge player.
She is survived by her sons Stuart of Farmington and Thomas (Martha) of Wilmette, Illinois, three grandchildren; Charlie, Will and Molly Spalding as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christy, in 1969.
Private Funeral Services will be held at Molloy Funeral Home on Friday followed by burial in Quivet Creek Cemetery, East Dennis, Massachusetts.
